Daniel Liao — Bassoon

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Daniel Liao holds degrees in bassoon performance from Brandon University and the University of Western Ontario, and counts Vincent Ellin, James Mendenhall and James McKay amongst his early teachers, and Nadina Mackie Jackson and Christopher Millard as his most recent influences.

In Canada, Mr. Liao has performed alongside composers R. Murray Shaffer, Gary Kulesha, Christos Hatzis and Philip Glass. Now an active freelancer in New York City, he serves as principal bassoonist with a host of area ensembles, including Astoria Symphony, the Pan American Symphony Orchestra and Greenwich Village Orchestra, and has participated in premieres of new works by eminent composers such as Leo Kraft and Benjamin Lees.

As a chamber music recitalist, Daniel is a core member of the Contemporary Music Ensemble at CUNY Graduate Center, a regular collaborator with Classical Revolution NYC, and a founding member of Tessera Quintet.
