Mary Ziegler Roberts — French Horn

Mary Ziegler Roberts plays French horn professionally in and around New York City. Mary performs regularly as an extra musician with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, and has also played with the Harrisburg Symphony, Binghamton Philharmonic, and the Akron, Johnstown, Altoona, and Westmoreland Symphonies. She is a former member of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra.

In New York she has played as principal horn with dell’Arte Opera, Narrows Community Theater, and the Greenwich Village Orchestra, and has also performed with One World Symphony, Chelsea Opera and Manhattan Symphonie. She participates in several recording projects, jazz ensembles, and chamber music groups, including Kelly Hall-Tompkin’s Music Kitchen, Rob Mosher’s Storytime, the First Street Woodwind Quintet, and BrickWorks Brass Trio.

Mary received her Master’s degree in performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied with Eli Epstein, formerly of the Cleveland Orchestra. At Duquesne University School of Music, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in performance, studying with Bill Caballero and Zach Smith, both of the Pittsburgh Symphony.

Sharing her love of music with others, Mary also teaches private music lessons on piano, horn, recorder, and other brass to adults and children. In addition to her home studio, Mary teaches piano at the Corlears School in Manhattan. She received a second Master’s degree in Teaching from Pace University and, as a member of Teach for America–New York City, taught first grade for two years in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn.
