Kevin Lin, Violin
2009 GVO Young Artists' Concerto Competition Winner
Sixteen-year-old Kevin Lin, born in New York City, started the
violin at age six at the JCC Thurnauer School of Music in Tenafly,
New Jersey with Cheryl Norman. He later went on to study with
Julie Becker, and Sharon Roffman at JCC. Since 2007, Kevin has
been studying with Patinka Kopec at the Manhattan School of
Music Precollege division.

At the Thurnauer School of Music, Kevin was chosen to perform in
the annual Handler Master Class Series with Todd Phillips,
Pamela Frank, Philip Setzer, and Peter Winograd. Kevin also
appeared in numerous venues with the JCC Thurnaur Music
Group, including Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall with Keshet Eilon,
The Jewish Museum, The Metropolitan Museum, Lincoln Center's
Merkin Hall, The Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City and Disney
World. In 2008, Kevin was invited to perform at The Ninth
Annual Humanity Awards at West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Kevin won an Honorable Mention in the New Jersey ASTA string competition in 2006 and 2009.
He was awarded with the Kate Bamberger Memorial Award at Manhattan School of Music in
2008. Kevin recently won second place in the Alexander and Buono International String
Competition, and first place in the Sound Symphony Concerto Competition, Greenwich Village
Orchestra Concerto Competition and Algonquin Art’s Rising Star Competition.

Kevin has attended several summer music programs, including EMS Summer String Festival,
JCC Chamber Music Camp, The Kinhaven Music Camp and Heifetz International Institute.

Kevin is currently a member of the Manhattan School of Music Philharmonic Orchestra and the
concertmaster of the Tenafly High School Honors Orchestra. In the past, he was concertmaster
of the Manhattan School of Music Symphony Orchestra under the direction of James
Sadewhite, concertmaster of the JCC Thurnauer School of Music Symphony Orchestra under
the direction of Lou Kosma, concertmaster of the Senior and Junior Division, New Jersey
Region One Orchestra.
